Marijuana Moratorium Ordinance Passed

At the city council meeting on Wednesday we approved an ordinance that puts a moratorium (a stop) on all marijuana businesses within the city. The ordinance further states that we will refer the question to the Canby voters in November 2016 (per the state requirement if we impose a moratorium).

The State has given cities and counties the power to decide locally if they want to ban medical dispensaries or retail marijuana shops (or producers or processors). The Canby voters rejected the marijuana bill on the ballot (SB 91) last November so we think it’s prudent to have them decide on whether they want it available here locally. I voted for this moratorium; the vote was unanimous.

At the state level, of course, it is still legal and people may still possess certain amounts and grow up to 4 plants at home.
