We had our final budget committee meeting of the series of 3 on Thursday. The budget will be officially approved by city council in June.
The city manager and finance director run these meetings. The budget committee is comprised of us 6 city councilors, the mayor, and 6 citizens.
We go through all of the City departments’ budgets and discuss any proposed changes to them and any questions /concerns we have about allocations, etc. There’s a public hearing element too, in which citizens can give feedback, although no citizens came that night. But department heads came in case their professional advice was needed.
Takeaway fact: Our City budget is $38 million this year and it is a status quo budget, meaning we are not tweaking much from last year. No staff lay offs were necessary this year, yay.
